What is Sound?
What is Sound?
Sound is simply vibratory energy. It is a frequency of vibration that we audibly hear between 20 and 20,000 Hz. Sound moves almost a million times slower than the speed of light. We perceive the frequencies through our ears primarily and it is transformed into electrochemical impulses that are sent to our brain via sound waves or transporting molecules. The molecules themselves are not traveling with the information; they are essentially handing it from one to another. They take on the vibration of the initial pulse and pass it on to the next molecule or in other words create the motion of the sound wave.
What is Frequency?
Frequency is one of the most important elements in the discussion of sound healing. The term frequency refers to how often any regularly repeated event occurs in an assumed unit of time. In sound, we refer to the frequency of vibrations. This unit of frequency is measured in hertz (Hz) or the number of vibrations or cycles per second. Humans can audibly hear between 20 and 20,000 Hz.
What is Sound Healing?
Sound healing is the practice of using these vibrational frequencies to repair damaged cells within the body, to heal our emotional wounds, and to create and nurture our spiritual journey. It works on the basis that all matter is vibrating at specific frequencies, and sickness, disease, depression and stress causes human beings to vibrate at a lower/different frequency. Sound has been used as a healing tool for centuries, and is still regularly utilized by many different practitioners. Tibetan singing bowels, tuning forks, drumming therapy, and harmonic vocal toning are all used in sound healing.
Sound healing works on the premise of resonance. Resonance can be defined as “the frequency at which a object most naturally vibrates”. If a tuning fork that is tuned to 528 Hz is struck, it will resonate at 528 Hz. This frequency is called the resonant frequency. If another identical tuning fork is present, it will resonate with the tuning fork that was struck…..without being struck. This is further defined as a sympathetic vibrational frequency.
Given that everything has a resonate frequency, we humans are no exception. This is why certain colors feel good to us and why we are attracted to certain instruments and sounds. This is why when we around someone with a similar vibrational rate as our own we feel comfortable and familiar.
So when it comes to music and sound, finding sources that resonate positively is a good and healthy thing. People can simply fall out of tune if surrounded by sounds that do not resonate well with them. Falling out of tune usually leads to disease and stress. We are constantly being vibrated on a cellular level with unwanted frequencies…… no wonder why there is such an increase in stress related disease in our modern society.
What is Toning?
Toning is the creation of extended vocal sounds on a single vowel in order to experience the sound and its effects in other parts of the body.
No melody, no words, no rhythm, and no harmony - just the sound of the vibrating breath. Its a simple yet powerful technique, accessible to everyone regardless of vocal ability or training. Through toning you can immediately experience the effects of sound on your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Toning synchronizes the brainwaves, helps relieve tension, and enhances your power of listening to everything around you. Toning is the most powerful way to create a specific frequency within the body. Most of all, toning restores balance and harmony to the mind and body.
We started toning at an early age without even knowing. When you were developing inside your mothers womb, you were receiving vibrations of her voice. Those developed as your voice grew...... you knew as a child long loud screams sure could get people to move. You also found that the sound and vibration of your mother or fathers voice created a frequency of safety and peace. Then we learn to sing..... all the time not really focusing on the healing power of sound, yet it affected us.
So toning, is the natural progression to use our voice to create specific vibrations to bring balance and harmony back in our lives. There are many frequencies that we use on a day to day basis such as our brainwaves. When we sleep we go into Delta and we touch on Theta on our way to Beta and Alpha, depending if we are awake or highly engaged. These frequencies can be toned to to help us meditate, relax, energize, focus, create, etc.
Toning with intention is the core of our work. In each healing piece that we did, we created an intent with affirmations and stories and matched it with a specific frequency. The specific frequency sometimes has its own meaning and energy.....ie, The Solfeggio Frequencies.
Most of all, toning just feels good....it is a vocal vibration of our entire being that leaves us buzzing in resonance with good and healthy frequencies and helps to remind ourselves of the affirmations that we need more and more of as we deal with the world today.
So take a few deep breaths and allow a sound to come from within.... any sound.... and have fun..... hear your voice and know that your are on your way.......ooooooohhhhhmmmmmm.......
What is 432 Hz tuning and why do we use it?
432 Hz tuning is where we tune our instruments to A = 432Hz. Most modern day music is tuned to A = 440Hz. Why the difference? The difference is that the 432 Hz tuning gives the music a different energy that we feel is more in touch with the resonance of the earth and frequencies of nature. This particular tuning lends itself to softer clearer sound that resonates with how we "feel" when we listen to music.
There is and has been for years discussion on what frequency is better? My question is better for what. Our approach is very hands on .... or if you will......ears on. The 432 Peace Project was developed because when we recorded in the 432 Hz tuning, we felt the songs differently and used that as a healing tool in our quest to create these healing pieces of music.
There is a wealth of information out there about the different tunings and I encourage everybody ALWAYS to keep looking, listening and learning....AND check out how you feel when you listen to the different tunings... how does that affect you...... that to me is the most important......let sound be our teacher....
There will be some articles on the different tuning frequencies in the Links.
What are Solfeggio Frequencies?
Solfeggio frequencies make up the ancient 6-tone scale thought to have been used in sacred music, including the beautiful and well known Gregorian Chants. The chants and their special tones were believed to impart spiritual blessings when sung in harmony. Each Solfeggio tone is comprised of a frequency required to balance your energy and keep your body, mind and spirit in perfect harmony.
We use the Solfeggio Frequencies to create healing around what the frequency's intent was when it was created. In other words, the 528 Hz frequency is all about DNA repair through transformation and miracles....so we created a piece called Love 528 that has an intention of creating love combined with this frequency of transformation.....the transformation of love. This is how we developed the Solfeggio Frequency healing pieces.......they are very powerful.
Again, our philosophy is to listen and see what happens......Did you have a reaction or not, was the piece harmonious or irritating long and repetitive.......all these will give you a direction of what frequency you need to balance out certain parts that create havoc in our lives. This is how we use sound, vocal toning, and creating affirmations to create pieces of music we can resonate with to help us with the different stages of our lives.
